Company Overview

Sodexo delivers more than 100 services across North America that enhance organizational performance, contribute to local communities and improve quality of life. It is a global Fortune 500 company and a leader in sustainable, integrated facilities management and foodservice operations.

Sodexo touches the lives of 75 million consumers in 80 countries every day. In North America alone, it serves more than 15 million consumers at 9,000 client sites. Its dedication to employees, clients and customers comes from one goal — to positively improve Quality of Life wherever it operates.

Quality of Life is central to the performance and growth of individuals and organizations. Working from this perspective, Sodexo has redefined how to best address clients’ complex needs across the many industries it serves, including Corporate, Education, Government & Agencies, Health Care, Senior Living, Sports and Leisure and Energy & Resources.

Because 70 percent of today’s jobs, including many Sodexo jobs, require STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills, Sodexo has made STEM a priority for strategic engagement. Most of the 20 million students who will graduate by 2020 will never have tackled a real-world problem. They also need help connecting their schoolwork to their aspirations and viable career pathways.

As one of the world’s largest employers, Sodexo values the opportunity to help today’s students discover their career passions and acquire the skills they need in today’s workplace. It works with the 114th Partnership to activate student STEM interest and goal setting, with a focus on students who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.

Sodexo and The 114th Partnership develop case studies and supporting classroom materials based on real workplace challenges identified by employers, as well as on national and state educational standards.

Evaluations show that the case studies increase student interest in STEM careers and commitment to STEM coursework, especially in students who are not currently engaged in STEM. They are made available to schools at no cost, in formats selected by the employer.

Continuing its work with the SPARK 101 Interactive STEM video series, Sodexo is now embarking on its third project. The first focused on Planning Healthy School Meals using USDA regulations and specific budgets. The second focused on Designing the Future Ready Classroom and the third will focus on food waste, a timely subject given that several leading agencies have set goals to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.
