CSR is ingrained into Tata Consultancy Service’s culture. Giving back is part of our heritage: Jamsetji Tata, who founded the Tata Group in 1868, stated that “the community is not just another stakeholder in the business, but the very purpose of its existence.” Over generations, the group has sustained a tradition of bequeathing much of its wealth. In fact, about 66% of its equity is held by philanthropic trusts. TCS’ approach to CSR is driven by our strategy to create “Impact through Empowerment” in the areas of health, education, and environment. We serve local communities through programs, partnerships, and initiatives that address large-scale societal problems. Here’s how TCS is making an impact through its education initiatives:



As a leading IT services provider, TCS North America recognizes that our company’s future—and the nation’s—depends upon more Americans with STEM skills entering the workforce each year. We’re leading the change through several cross-sector efforts along with partners, customers and industry peers to inspire young boys and girls, from ethnic minorities, marginalized groups and low income families, toward STEM education and careers. In 2009, we launched a STEM education and mentorship effort of our own: the TCS goIT Student Technology Program.

  • Since inception, goIT has engaged more than 12,000 North American students across 32 cities and over 100 school districts with promising results.
  • To support a national technology infrastructure for STEM mentoring, TCS has developed mentoring platforms for US2020 and Million Women Mentors. As a result, these initiatives are connecting nearly 850,000 industry professionals and 250 youth serving organizations to students in need.
  • Through our national partnership with NPower, TCS is providing consulting and IT services to non-profits in need through pro-bono technology projects. These projects have resulted in $7.6M in social good for education focused nonprofit organizations.
  • TCS is a leader of STEM 2.0 a public-private partnership initiative focused on identifying, defining and imparting STEM, digital and employment skills to the future workforce.

TCS North America recognizes that the company and the nation’s future depends upon growing the STEM skillset of school children. Through cross-sector efforts along with partners TCS NA works to inspire students from ethnic minorities, marginalized groups and low income families, and females toward STEM education and careers.
