Service First – Bringing next generation STEM to military families! (LinkedIn)

by STEMconnector

On April 7th, we launched the Service First – Family Drone Days program at the BP America campus in Houston, TX. The event was 100% free and the agenda included a keynote from NASA astronaut and former ISS commander, Colonel Tim Kopra, as well as engineering design sessions facilitated by BP coaches, a Minecraft Hour of Code session w/ Microsoft, and a series of technical and team building activities led by university faculty and professional engineers.

Military children typically relocate numerous times throughout their K-12 education. Due to disparities in local/state/federal education standards and regional testing requirements, these students often miss key learning objectives and content.

Over time, this cycle results academic deficiencies that limit higher education and employment options. As children fall behind in school, they also lose their enthusiasm and intrinsic motivation for learning.

Service First exclusively serves military families, offering exciting education events, online educational content, authentic project-based learning, and sustained coaching and mentorship.

Huge thanks to our sponsors BP and Microsoft for making this program possible.
