Director, Product Development & Research

The Director, Product Development & Research supports the work of STEMconnector’s core insight generation function and translates that work in client thought partnership and guidance.

This role will bring STEMconnector’s research, tools, and overall market insights to life. The Director will understand the broader STEM talent marketplace and our members’ current STEM talent challenges and priorities in order to advise them on the best course of action. Ultimately, the Director will help prospective and current members better understand their own challenges, influence decisions on these clients’ STEM priorities, and leverage STEMconnector’s offerings to strengthen their STEM talent strategies.

Key Responsibilities

The Director will have direct interactions with clients diagnosing their current challenges and advising them on the best course of action. He/she will also help execute the yearly research agenda, contribute to day-to-day research functions such as client interviews and analysis. He/she is expected to be an active participant in internal team meetings and brainstorm sessions. This role requires strong critical thinking and diagnostic skills, along with exceptional presentation and communication skills to deeply assess client challenges and deliver solutions.

The Director will report directly to the Senior Director of Product Development & Research, who will have responsibility for oversight of Director’s work and his/her professional development. This position will work closely with members of the Business Development Team. The Director will also work with the Communications/ Events team to convey insights in a visually appealing manner and to shape event content.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead conversations with clients and applies knowledge of STEMconnector research to help clients solve key STEM talent challenges
  • Deliver several podium speaking engagements per year at relevant events
  • Facilitate workshop-style discussions with clients to engage them in research and strategy development
  • Actively shape the direction of ongoing research and product development projects
  • Stay up to date on latest trends in field and share findings and analysis for inclusion in research deliverables such as white papers
  • Operate independently but highly collaboratively with communications, client service, and business development teams

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-7 years or equivalent experience in a strategy consulting or another similar role involving professional services and analytics
  • Knowledge of U.S. workforce development, education, economics, or related
  • field(s), as demonstrated by either academic or work experience in the issue area(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to engage senior-level executives by building relationships, establishing credibility, conducting substantive content discussions, diagnosing needs, solving problems, and identifying relevant resources
  • Experience leading and conducting research and analysis projects, including:
    • Creating and applying research objectives, methodologies, learning questions, and/or other frameworks to guide analysis
    • Conducting primary and secondary research and associated analysis from quantitative and qualitative sources
    • Drafting summaries of research findings to convey complex concepts to various audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and executive presence
    • Experience with podium presentation and/or workshop facilitation
    • Strong PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, prioritize deliverables, and handle unanticipated demands in a fast-paced work environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Excellent collaboration skills (working across teams and functions)
  • Ability to solve problems both independently and as part of a team
  • Desire and ability to learn new topics quickly, and to proactively seek out ways to contribute beyond own workstream
  • Strong detail orientation, including commitment to rigor and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Experience writing different types of research deliverables and collateral, including one-pagers, white papers, blogs, and others

Research Analyst

The Research Analyst supports the work of STEMconnector’s core insight generation function, along with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and product offerings such as Innovation Labs.

With over 120 member organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to innovative non-profit organizations and educational institutions, STEMconnector provides the unique opportunity to interact with C-Suite leaders and field experts in a variety of capacities. This is a fast-paced working environment with opportunity to contribute to innovative products at the intersection of STEM strategy, CSR, and diversity and inclusion efforts. The Research Analyst will be able to build strong applied research and analytical skills across these topics and sectors, as well as an understanding of a variety of issues around STEM talent and overall workforce development.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Analyst will help execute the yearly research agenda, participate in day-to-day research functions such as data gathering, analysis, and reporting. He/she is expected to be an active participant in internal team meetings and brainstorm sessions. This role requires strong critical thinking skills to both answer predetermined research questions/ work within existing frameworks and create new ones. The Research Analyst will be responsible for supporting development of various research and resource deliverables.

The Research Analyst will report directly to the Senior Director of Product Development & Research, who will have responsibility for oversight of Analyst’s work and his/her professional development. This position will work closely with members of the Communications and Partnerships team to convey research insights in a visually appealing and media- friendly manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support research
    • Manage own workstreams within broader research projects, communicating timelines and providing regular updates to Senior Director and other internal stakeholders
    • Conduct literature reviews and data scans, using analysis to drive to insights for members and the field
    • Understand, track, and pull key findings from relevant quantitative data sets
    • Schedule and take notes on interviews with cross-sector leaders and others in the STEM ecosystem, and as ability is demonstrated, lead those interviews
    • Create and analyze surveys of members and others
    • Serve as thought partner in discussions with other members of research team
  • Create research deliverables
    • Share findings and analysis for inclusion in research deliverables such as white papers
    • Regularly create PowerPoint slides visualizing quantitative and qualitative data for use by STEMconnector staff and members
    • Identify potential application of research and analysis to STEMconnector event, communications, and product offerings
  • Administrative tasks as assigned, including scheduling meetings with internal and external parties, tracking contacts, taking notes during key meetings, and other similar tasks

    • Creating interview protocols
    • Conducting analysis of findings, both quantitative and qualitative
    • Drafting summaries of findings, research briefs, PowerPoint decks, or related documentation to convey complex concepts/findings to various audiences
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, prioritize deliverables, and handle unanticipated demands in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong PowerPoint skills
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Experience with quantitative analysis, including statistics, and in using tools such as pivot tables
